Homemade candles are quickly becoming a favorite craft of mine – they’re SO quick and easy to make, and there are a ton of creative ways that you can decorate and finish them! Note: quantities listed will yield three six-ounce jar candles.

  • Use a drop of hot glue to attach the candle wicks to the center of the bottom of the glass jars.
  • In the candle pitcher, over low-medium heat, melt four cups of soy wax flakes, stirring frequently.
  • Add 3 blocks of yellow wax colorant along with 20-30 drops of pineapple fragrance oil. Mix well.
  • Carefully pour the hot wax into the candle jars. Allow the candle jars to sit undisturbed until completely cool.

    1. Technically, yes, it would work, but it is not recommended. Here’s a little bit of information from Spruce Crafts as to why you shouldn’t use crayons to color candles:

Why Crayons Aren’t a Good Option for Coloring Candles

Here’s the science behind why crayons shouldn’t be used for candle making:

Like paint, crayons are colored with pigments. Pigments appear to change an object or substance’s color by reflecting or absorbing different wavelengths of light. However, the pigments don’t dissolve in wax; instead, they’re dispersed throughout the wax, floating around in it. This might not seem like an issue and a candle colored with crayons might look perfectly fine when it’s finished––until you light it.

As the wax melts and gets carried through the wick to the flame, the pigments will clog the wick. Think of it like dirty deposits in your gasoline that clog up your fuel line––that’s what happens with pigments. The pigments that don’t clog the wick tend to settle and concentrate at the bottom of the melted wax, so your once beautiful candle won’t be so pretty after a few uses. Even worse, your candle will burn with sooty smoke, until the wick gets so clogged that it stops burning altogether. These are obviously not the results you want when you’ve worked hard to make your own candles.

      1. Any brand should work, but I recommend using the small pellets vs a bigger block of beeswax since they’re easier to melt.

  1. Wow candles look yummy 🙂 jus kidding. Good way to enhance the candle. Did you add any flavor for the fragrance?
