Great tips! I love using lavender infused vinegar when cleaning at home . It’s cleans every surface and the scent is great. Thank you for your recipes and tips. I’ve got few ideas to try right this weekend. Greets!

I started to make my own natural cleaners two month ago when I realized that I have allergies to some of the ingredients of the common cleaners. Now I just can’t believe that I have spent so much money on these special toxic cleaners. This is madness! Thanks for the interesting article! East Dulwich Carpet Cleaners Ltd.

For an all-purpose cleaner, some recipes call for 1 part vinegar to 8 parts water. However, your recipe calls for 1 part vinegar to 1 part water. Why is there such a discrepancy to ratios?
Also, what is the purpose for essential oil? Is it simply to make the cleaner smell nice or does it have cleaning benefits?

Using vinegar and water on windows will make them SHINE — I use the classified ads instead of paper towels to wipe it off — it cuts the dirt and makes a better shine than paper towels — just be carefule because you can end up with a dirty face from the newsprint 🙂

I’ve long used a vinegar cleaner in my home, and I always keep a spray bottle ready to clean just about anything. We have real problems with hard water here in my part of Denmark, and I’ve found vinegar works best to remove the calcium deposits. I’ve never blended it with scent–I just got used to the vinegar smell around the house. I’ll definitely have to give this a try. I especially love the idea of infusing the vinegar with lemon. I’d think this would allow some of the citrus oils in the lemon rind to seep into the vinegar too, which would make the cleaner that much more powerful. I’m going to try this right away. Thanks so much for sharing! Love your blog. It’s beautiful and full of great information.

I learned how to clean with vinegar from watching me mom doing it when I was a child. Vinegar is a cheap, wonderful way to save money and still have a clean home.

I’m a huge fan of vinegar as well now. I have a stainless steal microwave that is just calling my name to be cleaned. The picture of your little one cleaning your fridge made me laugh. Madeline was going around the whole house spraying everything helping me clean up. I couldn’t get too mad now could I?

I use a few drops of tea tree oil castile soap in my all purpose cleaner to change the smell.

Love using lemons peels for the scent! I have made my own apple vinegar and even used orange peels but haven’t tried lemon yet!

Wow! I’ll definitely be using this to clean my stainless steel refrigerator. I currently use Pledge and it works really well. Great job on the post!

be careful with the vinegar on granite, travertin, etc. Vinegar reacts with it and can “eat” it.
Heidi @ Mom's Crafty Space says
Thanks for the heads up! I wasn’t aware of this, so I removed the word “granite” and just left “countertops” in my post so as to not be promoting something that might not be ideal. Personally, I spray the cleaner, quickly wipe it off and then wipe again with a dry cloth to polish immediately, so I’m not too worried since it’s only on there for just a moment, but I’ll definitely be aware of the potential. Thanks again!

White vinegar and clean coffee filters is the best cleaner I have ever found for my windshield. Easily removes bug guts on the outside, and the “mystery” film on the inside. Ok, it’s not mystery film – there’s a legit reason for it.
