Hello, there! Does this place look unfamiliar? You might be wondering if you’re in the right spot. This is supposed to be Mom’s Crafty Space, isn’t it? It sure is!
Mom’s Crafty Space got a makeover this past week as I made the move to a self-hosted WordPress blog, and now my previous posts are even better organized and categorized (yay!). In the process I also decided to do something that I’ve been thinking about for the past three years – changing my name.
When I first started Mom’s Crafty Space back in 2010 it was a place for me to post all of the kids craft projects that were drawing an increasingly too-large-for-comfort numbers of viewers to my family’s personal blog. I quickly and quite literally named my blogs “The Family Blog” and “Mom’s Crafty Space” as a way to distinguish the two places for our family and friends that read them on a regular basis. I never dreamed that Mom’s Crafty Space would grow to become the size that it is today!
As the blog grew I became more and more uncomfortable with the name that I had hastily chosen, especially the “Mom” part. While it’s true that being a mom is my #1 joy and priority, there is SO much more to ME than just being “Mom.” It probably didn’t make an ounce of difference to anyone else, but I felt like I was selling myself short by categorizing myself as just “Mom.” It all came to a head in April when I attended the SNAP! conference and found myself quietly mumbling my blog’s name every time someone asked me about it. I didn’t like saying it out loud, and I knew right then that it was time to make a change.
“Happiness is Homemade” was inspired by a prototype sign that I designed for my Etsy shop a few months ago. I hung the sign above my dresser, and every morning when I saw it there I realized how perfectly that sentiment fits into my life. When I was younger I struggled with depression, and it was only when I became pregnant with my first son that I suddenly felt an undeniable urge to tap back into my creative side that had been ignored for too long. With my rediscovered passion for creating I was able to shift my focus from self misery to the joy that I felt in making a beautiful life for my family. My happiness truly is homemade.
With the help of my friend Courtney of Sweet C’s Designs, I was able to move my old blog over to this new space and give myself a fresh new identity while still keeping ALL of the content from Mom’s Crafty Space. I can’t even begin to say thank you enough for all of her help – I absolutely couldn’t have done any of this without her! You can now find all of my social media accounts at @hiHomemadeBlog, and I’m working with Facebook to get my name changed there as well *fingers crossed*.
I hope the new name change and layout doesn’t confuse anyone too much, and I really appreciate all of the support and wonderful feedback that I’ve already received! Thank you all so much!
