Bath bombs are a great way to introduce some simple self-care into your life, and these chamomile lavender bath bombs are one of my most favorites! Bath bombs add a colorful effervescent fizz to your bath water and leave your skin feeling silky smooth and moisturized thanks to the addition of nourishing oils. Lavender and chamomile are both known for their relaxing and calming properties, which means that they’re  the perfect addition to your soothing bedtime bath.

Chamomile Lavender Bath Bombs

Relax and unwind with these calming and soothing chamomile lavender bath bombs!

Yields: 7 Bath Bombs

What You’ll Need:

  • 3 cups Baking Soda
  • 2 Tbsp White Kaolin Clay
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSA)
  • 1/2 tsp Purple Mica Colorant
  • 2 Tbsp Sweet Almond Oil, divided
  • 1 Tbsp Polysorbate 80 divided
  • 15 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 15 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil
  • 1 1/2 cups Citric Acid, divided
  • Witch Hazel in a Spray Bottle, scant amount as needed
  • 2 1/2" Round Bath Bomb Molds
  • 1 Chopstick (or similar item)

Instructions:

  • In a large mixing bowl, thoroughly combine baking soda, white kaolin clay, and SLSA.
  • Divide the dry mixture evenly into two medium bowls, and stir the purple mica into one of the bowls. Leave the second bowl uncolored.
  • In a small container, combine 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil, 1/2 tablespoon of polysorbate 80, and 15 drops of lavender essential oil. Stirring constantly, slowly mix the liquids into the purple dry ingredients until they are completely combined.
  • In another small container, combine the remaining sweet almond oil, polysorbate 80, and Roman chamomile essential oil. Stirring constantly, combine the liquid ingredients with the dry white ingredients.
  • Add 3/4 cup of citric acid to each of the bowls, and stir until it is fully incorporated into the mixture.
  • Test to see if the mixture is a moldable consistency - it should feel like slightly damp sand and hold together when squeezed in your hand.
    If the mixture is not quite wet enough to mold, spritz two to three times with a spray bottle of witch hazel and mix well. Repeat as necessary until the proper consistency is reached.
  • Fill both halves of the bath bomb mold with alternating areas of purple and white. Use a chopstick (or similar item) to swirl the colors inside each half of the mold. Make sure to overfill both sides of the mold just a bit. Press both halves of the mold firmly together.
  • Carefully release the bath bomb from the mold (tap the mold lightly with a wooden spoon if needed) and allow it to dry for 24-48 hours depending on the temperature and humidity of your location.

    I had a lot of fun making the bath bombs. The instructions had me making them successfully right from the start. I’ve talked to others who made them unsuccessfully and gave up. Thank you!

  2. If I don’t have the chamomile oil, do I add more lavender oil or is there another essential oil that would work for this recipe?

    1. You can just skip the chamomile oil if you don’t have any on-hand! Some other oils that are good for bedtime are valerian, ylang ylang, and Peace & Calming. 🙂

  3. Lavender and chamomile bath bombs? Count me in! Few things are more soothing and relaxing than those two scents in the evening. Not to mention all of their health benefits when in teas or essential oils. Simply divine!
