As requested, here’s our current favorite homemade bread recipe! This recipe makes a large loaf of white bread; however, you could easily substitute half of the bread flour for wheat flour if desired. I’m posting the instructions for making it in a bread machine, but this recipe works just as well if you choose to knead it by hand – we’ve done it both ways, and it tastes equally as yummy! We’ve been making this quite a bit lately because we’ve been trying to get a lot of local honey into our diet (to help combat seasonal allergies).
Mom’s Honey White Bread
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1 package (2 1/4 tsp.) of active dry yeast
Directions:
- Place as follows into your bread machine pan: water, honey, butter, salt, flour and yeast. Make sure that the yeast rests on top of the flour and doesn’t get into the water too much yet.
- Bake on the “basic” or “white bread” setting. Allow to cool before slicing.
Don’t forget to whip up a batch of homemade butter to go along with your delicious bread! 🙂

Hi, I don’t have a bread machine and am new to baking bread. Can you please walk me through the steps if I do the knead and rise method. Thanks!

Hi Giana! Baking bread without a machine is a lengthy (but simple!) process, so I found this tutorial online that walks you through the steps perfectly: http://www.thesimpledollar.com/2007/11/04/homemade-bread-cheap-delicious-healthy-and-easier-than-you-think/. With this bread recipe the initial rise is 60 minutes and the final rise is 30 minutes (as shown in that tutorial as well). I bake mine at 400 degrees as well, for around 30-40 minutes 🙂
