Learn how to make your own apple chocolate-covered pretzels that look just like small apples & pencils! They’re the perfect treat for back-to-school parties, and they make a great gift for teachers, too!
First, in a small microwave safe bowl, melt green wafers for 1 minute at 50% power. If more melting is needed, continue to heat in 30 second intervals at 50% power while stirring in between (it may take 3-4 times to reach the proper consistency for dipping).
Green Melting Wafers
Pour melted chocolate into a piping bag or small plastic bag, and cut off the tip of the bag. Place the printable leaf pattern onto a flat surface and top with a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper. Trace the tiny leaf pattern using the green melted chocolate, then place these into the freezer to set the chocolate.
In a medium microwave safe bowl, follow the directions in the first step of this recipe with the red candy melts.
Red Melting Wafers
Once the chocolate is completely melted and smooth, dip the jumbo pretzels into the red chocolate. Make sure to coat the pretzel completely.
Jumbo Pretzels
Set the dipped pretzels aside onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper or parchment paper.
Break the pretzel sticks in half, and place one half at the top of each red jumbo pretzel. Place the green apple leaves on the front of the red pretzel near the top. This will make the red pretzel look like a delicious red apple! Set these aside to harden completely.

MAKING THE PENCIL PRETZELS –
In a medium microwave safe bowl, or a tall dipping box, melt the yellow chocolate wafers following the same directions in the first step of making the apple pretzels.
Yellow Melting Wafers
Dip the pretzel rods into the yellow chocolate, coating most of the rod.
Pretzel Rods
Allow the chocolate to harden on the pretzel and then dip into the chocolate again with the opposite side so that the whole rod is completely coated in yellow chocolate. Set aside and allow the chocolate to harden.
In a small bowl, melt the pink melting wafers just as you did in the first step of this recipe.
Pink Melting Wafers
Once melted, dip just the tip of the pretzel rod into the pink melting wafers.
Now your pencil has an eraser! Set these aside to harden.
Spray the shimmer spray on a small piece of parchment paper. Just under the pink chocolate, use a food safe paint brush to paint a ½ inch strip of silver shimmer onto the pretzel rod.
Silver Edible Shimmer Cake Decorating Spray
Melt a small amount of light brown chocolate, following the previous melting directions, and add it into a piping bag. Cut off the tip of the piping bag and write a number ‘2’ under the silver strip on the pretzel rod.
Light Chocolate Melting Wafers
Once the chocolate has hardened completely, you will have a neat pretzel rod pencil to go with your cool pretzel apple.
