These quick and easy octopus cupcakes are perfect for your next Finding Dory or Nemo party! Cute party idea for any ocean, beach, or under the sea themed bash!
In case you haven’t heard, the newest Pixar animated film, Finding Dory, is hitting movie theatres today, and my kids are beyond excited to see it! In this sequel to the hit film Finding Nemo, Dory goes on a quest to find her long lost family, and she meets many new and entertaining ocean characters along the way including my favorite, Hank the octopus.
In honor of the movie’s release, I whipped up these cute (and totally easy!) octopus cupcakes that will be the star of the show at your next Finding Dory (or Nemo!) party!
Start by baking your favorite vanilla cake (a boxed mix is completely fine, but if you prefer to bake from scratch, I love this vanilla cake recipe from Natasha’s Kitchen) and adding a few drops of blue food coloring to the mix. Once the cupcakes are baked and cooled, ice them with an ample amount of bright blue frosting (I use this vanilla buttercream recipe from Sugar & Soul).
For Each Easy Octopus Cupcake, You’ll Need:
- Cupcake & Icing
- 1 Large Gumdrop
- 2
Small Candy Eyes
- 8 Sour Gummi Worms
- 1 Tbsp. Chocolate Chips
(Note: If you want to pay homage to Hank from Finding Dory, you’ll only need 7 gummi worms since Hank is actually a septopus!)
Use a dab of frosting to adhere the eyes on to the gumdrops.
The red and blue gummi worms shown here are Trolli Brite Crawlers, and I think that they look more “tentacle-like” than the other colors, which were a store brand gummi.
Arrange the 7-8 gummi worms in a circle to form the tentacles.
Add a dollop of frosting to the bottom of the gumdrop, and top the tentacles with the gumdrop body. Draw on a smiley face by dipping a toothpick into melted chocolate.
Totally cute and super easy peasy!
These adorable octopus cupcakes are sure to be a huge hit at your beach party, and they’re a cinch to make!
