That’s right, there are only 35 more days until Christmas! Wow! The holidays have certainly been sneaking up on me, especially since Hanukkah falls early and coincides with Thanksgiving this year. So many holidays packed into a 4-week time frame, and SO many holiday crafts to be made! I wanted to make a fun Christmas countdown to give myself a daily visual reminder, and I was able to whip this one up in just a few minutes using my Silhouette craft cutting machine.
I love my Silhouette all year-round, but I especially LOVE it around the holidays. With so many projects on my to-do list, I greatly appreciate a machine that dramatically cuts down on both the time and effort involved.
- Clipboard
- Gold Spray Paint
- White Vinyl
- Chalkboard Vinyl
- Transfer Paper
- Craft Knife (or specialty tool for weeding vinyl)
- Craft Squeegee (or an old credit/gift card)
I started by painting the clipboard gold and using my Silhouette machine to cut a scalloped rectangle out of chalkboard vinyl. I actually did this part last month and have been using it as my Clipboard “To Do List,” but I decided to give it a Christmas upgrade! I created my “Days Until Christmas” text using the Silhouette software, and added a snowflake design that I downloaded from the Silhouette library. I loaded a sheet of white vinyl into the cutter, pressed the cut button, and sat back as the machine did all of the hard work for me!
Seriously though…look at how insanely intricate and precise these cuts are! I’d have never been able to do all of this with just a craft knife (and certainly not in five minutes!)! After I weeded away the excess vinyl, I topped it with a sheet of transfer paper in order to peel up the entire design as a whole to apply it to my clipboard.
I used my chalk marker to draw a straight line so that I was able to precisely line up my text when applying the white vinyl. Use a craft squeegee or an old credit card to apply and smooth out the vinyl and then slowly and carefully peel away the transfer tape.
As if you needed another reason to fall in love with the Silhouette machines, here are a few of my favorite Silhouette holiday crafts from last year:
