Call them what you want – luminarias, lanterns, candle holders or jars, luminaries – these Halloween mason jar lights are quick and easy to make in under 15 minutes!
Last week I shared my quick and easy Halloween treat jars, and a couple of keen-eyed readers noticed that not all of the jars pictured in the photos ended up as treat jars (good eyes!). After fielding a couple of questions regarding the surplus jars, I wanted to show you what I made with the rest of them…Halloween luminarias!
To get the full how-to details, hop on over to the Halloween Treat Jar post, but the basic gist of it is this – place vinyl stickers on to the glass jars, spray paint, and then carefully remove the stickers (I used tweezers) before the paint is dry.
Pop a tea light or votive candle into the bottom of the jar, and you’ve got a Halloween lantern that will light up the entire night! I think I’m going to use a red flameless candle in this spider jar for Halloween night!
SO easy peasy! Yet another fun Halloween craft and decor item that you can create in under 15 minutes!

Hi. Could you use these outside? Or would they need a sealant spray ?
Hi Donna, I have used mine outside just fine (no sealer!), so I think they should be okay. I haven’t left mine outside for more than a week at a time, so I can’t speak to the longevity of it, but for short-term displays, they worked just fine as-is.
I love these ideas, thanks for the quick, cute, and easy crafts!
