It’s time for another collection of Totally Free SVG files, and this month is all about butterflies! Use our free butterfly SVG files to make your own t-shirts, mugs, tumblers, home décor, and more!
I designed this pretty butterfly tumbler wrap SVG file that’s a great way to use up your small vinyl scraps!

Butterfly Tumbler Wrap
Supplies Needed:
- Cricut Explore, Maker, or Joy (or other cutting machine that uses SVG files)
- Starbucks Cold Cup Tumbler (or similar sized tumbler)
- Permanent Adhesive Vinyl (I used Cricut Holographic Vinyl in Blue, Pink, and Opal)
- Transfer Tape
- Weeding Tools & Scraper
To begin creating your butterfly tumbler wrap, open up the Cricut Design Space software program and upload the SVG file (available below). If you need help, click here to learn How to Upload an SVG File in Cricut Design Space!
You’ll notice that each individual butterfly is made up of two different layers in the layers panel – one pink base layer and one black outline layer. There is also a green tumbler wrap layer to illustrate the positioning of each butterfly on the tumbler. If you do not wish to include a solid background layer for your butterflies, click on the eye icon in the layers panel at this time to ignore this layer.
To Use Vinyl Scraps for the Butterflies:
If you click on the green “Make It” button at this time, the butterflies will NOT cut in the same position that they are displayed on the canvas, but rather they will appear on the mat close together to make the best use of your materials. This is a great way to use vinyl scraps for your butterflies!
Edit the black and pink mats to position a butterfly in the center of each 2″ grid square. Then, position your vinyl scraps on the mat accordingly before cutting. Choose your materials from the materials list and then cut the vinyl. Weed the vinyl and layer the black outlines on top of the colored butterflies before applying to the tumbler.
Note that if you use this method, you will need to apply each individual butterfly to the tumbler by hand rather than applying the entire set of butterflies all at once.
To Use Full-Sized Vinyl for the Butterflies:
To cut the butterflies (in position as shown) from a larger sheet of vinyl, select all of the pink butterflies in the layers panel, and click on the weld tool to merge them into one single layer. Then, repeat the process for the black butterfly layers.
You’ll be left with three layers – a green tumbler background, pink butterfly bases, and black butterfly outlines.
Clicking on the green “Make It” button will now place the butterflies on each mat as positioned on the original canvas, and they can all be applied to the tumbler at the same time.
Choose your materials from the materials list and then cut the vinyl. Weed the vinyl and layer the black outlines on top of the colored butterflies before applying to the tumbler.
