We survived our first week of homeschool (which is also the reason why I’ve been a little scarce these past couple of weeks)! Technically I’m only homeschooling Sutton (our 4-year-old), but we’ve scheduled our activities so that we complete three of our six workbox drawers in the afternoon with both Sawyer (our public schooled kindergartener) and Sutton. I always make sure that the first drawer they complete together is Sawyer’s kindergarten homework for the day, and it’s been working out really well so far. Honestly, it’s been so much easier getting him to do his homework now. A couple of weeks ago it was like pulling teeth, but now they both get really excited when it’s “homeschool homework” time!
I’m trying to keep a balance of Montessori inspired activities along with the public school worksheets since that’s what Sutton is used to. We’ve starting off using unit studies to correspond to the season, and this week we did an apple unit. Here’s a quick sample of what we did – along with about a zillion things that I didn’t photograph!
