St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Traps

Building a leprechaun trap is a fantastic STEAM activity for children of all ages! Why Make a Leprechaun Trap?

Leprechaun traps are often a school homework assignment for children in lower elementary grades, but that’s not the only reason why they’re made – they’re also a TON of fun (and excellent creative brain work!)!

Legend has it that anyone who successfully traps a leprechaun on the night before St. Patrick’s Day will be granted three wishes, so it’s no wonder why children are so eager to trap one!

How Does a Leprechaun Trap Work?

Leprechaun traps are generally constructed out of common household items and craft supplies and are designed to lure in the leprechaun with the promise of gold coins or other treats.

It’s not often that a leprechaun actually gets caught in the trap, but they do often leave behind evidence of their presence – footprints, shamrocks, gold coins (chocolate or gold dollar coins), or a note for the children who set the trap!
