DIY Personalized Glitter Ornaments
I love the look of the plain glitter ornaments, but I had some silver glitter vinyl from Expressions Vinyl that was just begging to be put to good use, and I hadn’t made my boys their personalized ornament for 2012 yet. It just made perfect sense to add another layer of glitter to my glitter…more is more at holiday time, right?
I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut my boys’ initials from solid-colored vinyl, but you could easily cut it out with a sharp Xacto knife as well. Just print out the initial onto printer paper, trim it to size, and tape it on top of your piece of vinyl. Carefully use the Xacto knife to cut through both layers (paper and vinyl) to cut out your letters. Apply the initial to the ornament using a small scrap of transfer paper.
I used the silver glitter vinyl for my boys’ names along with a “2012” for the back side. The font that I used is Lobster, and it’s one of my current favorites.
These are seriously so easy to make that they become addictive! I ended up making one for each of the kiddos of Eight By Five, and I’m headed back to the craft store this week to see if I can find any more of the glass disc ornaments since I’ve had lots of requests for more. Such fun!
I’m rather obsessed with the tremendous amount of sparkle that these add to the Christmas tree, and I’m honestly contemplating getting rid of all my old solid colored balls and replacing them with a whole bunch of these!

I got a Cameo for Christmas and am just starting to play with it, I hand made my Christmas ornaments this year but will fun next year making more glitter ones!
I am having trouble getting the vinyl to stick. Any suggestions??
Sorry about that! My only suggestion would be to make sure that the glass is completely clean before trying to apply the vinyl (I like to clean it with a bit of vinegar to remove any residue or oils from my fingers), and use lots of pressure. Good luck!
im so not crafty but i love these please say they r on etsy please!!! lol
I don’t have them on Etsy this year, but I’ve had a LOT of requests, so I will likely be adding them next year. 🙂
Zane put his on the tree and said “this is my M&M ornament”. Now Alexa needs one! 😉
She totally does! I need to get some more of those disc ornaments! 🙂
Another gorgeous project, Heidi! Just wanted to let you know I featured it in my roundup of glass ornament crafts here. Feel free to check it out if you want and hope you like it! : )

Love it! Thanks so much, Mel! 🙂
I love these but how did you do the glitter? Mine never sticks.
I use Pledge Future Shine floor cleaner – works like a charm! I just got my ornaments from last year out of storage, and they’re as perfect today as they were last year! You can see more details on this post here: Glitter Ornaments.
Would you be willing to share what font you used for the initial?
Of course! Let me see if I can find my file, and I’ll get back to you! 🙂
I would also like to know what fonts were used for the name and the Initial if you could please share.
Hi Peggy! The name font is Lobster 2.0, but I wasn’t able to find my file, so I’m not sure about the initial font. Sorry!
I can’t be certain, but after looking through fonts to use as my initial font, I think the font used originally was “Traditional Arabic.” The ‘R’ and the ‘Z’ seem like a pretty dead on match.
so so stinking darling!!!
Thanks, Katie! They’re a ton of fun to make too! 🙂
these are soo cute!!
These are awesome… I have a horrible confession– I won a Silhouette but haven’t played with it yet… I clearly need to!
Where do you buy your glass ornaments? and how much do you typically spend on them?
I buy them at my local craft stores (in the past I’ve gotten most of them at Hobby Lobby because they had the best price) when they’re on sale or I have a coupon. Depending on size and style (flat disc or full ball shape) they’re usually about $6-10 for a pack of 6-8 at full price. 🙂
Thank you! I’m excited to try this out! 🙂
The colors are gorgeous! I love the lobster too… another similar font is Habano ST. My blog header is Habano. I really need to get a Silhouette.
These look fabulous. I love how they are glitter and bling but still suitable for boys.
Ruth
Love the glitter!!
Very cute idea!

These are fabulous, Heidi!
Love some bling – these are amazing!

These are awesome! I just made the plain glitter ones – so much fun – and now I’m crazy envious of the names and year you put on yours. Tell me about this “Silhouette Cameo” – is it easy to use? Worth it to purchase? My daughter makes cheer bows (the gigantic kind!) and it would be really cool to be able to add names to them.
Ours is on our tree now! Thanks for making Zane one!
AW! LOVE!!!
